Wearing your baby/toddler
Okay. I'm going camping at the end of June. At that point my son will be 18 months old, he's about 21 pounds right now. We will be doing some hiking so I would like to hear suggestions from everybody as to what kind of carrier or sling I should get. |
I have the ultimate baby wrap and I love it. I just haven't used it since he before he started walking since I haven't had a reason to. I'm not sure how well it will perform under the conditinos.
Of course it will be summer so I would like something that will not bake me under the hot sun, flexible so I can use on the front or on the back, and something comfortable for both of us. Most importantly needs to hold a 1-2 year old.
Please comment with suggestions and links if you know of any! I really do appreciate it. Money is not too much of an issue seeing as how I have a few months to save up.
Thanks guys ^_^
I'd imagine your cheapest option would be a mei tai, especially if you can get a good one, used. If you want something you don't have to tie, go erog or beco or something similar, but those are much more expensive, even used.
Do you anticipate hiking a lot in the future?
I've been looking at the Deuter and Sherpani frame carriers. We do a lot of hiking. Front carries are really not ideal once the kiddos get bigger--it's too hard to see your feet and slopes can be rather dangerous, even with trekking poles.
Right now I use an Ergo in front or back carries, but I only do front when desperate now, preferably on flat, even terrain.
ETA: doh! this is a very old post. I thought I was on the front page for a different community. *blush*

I would recommend a Chicco smart support if you are planning on doing some hiking. I recently went camping with my sisters family and she has daughter who is about 23lbs which we took with us on a two mile hike through the boundary waters. She and the baby were happy as could be and their were no problems with the carrier. I tried it on and it was uber comfortable because of all the padding for your back. Also the baby was having a blast giggling at all the new sites! The carrier goes on your back and the baby faces out so its a good way to familiarize her with the great outdoors and before long she decided to take a snooze so I'm assuming it was comfortable for her as well. The carrier can hold up to 401bs and you can get it from about $80-$100. My sister said she did some research on http://wize.com/baby-carriers/for/hike/2301
before she bought hers, I guess its a product review website and she said it was helpful. I hope this helps and Good luck!
