Suggestions Needed [Apr. 17th, 2007|09:36 pm]
Wearing your baby/toddler

babywearing

[lafiesta3]
I am in need of suggestions for a sling or baby carrier to wear my son. We have used the Native sling (I think that is the name), tried a ring sling and now an Ergo. The Native sling (on loan from a friend) worked well for the first 2-4 weeks, the ring sling lasted about 2-4 weeks comfortably and then I couldn't seem to work it as my son got bigger. I never felt that I had good back support with the ring sling and the babe seemed uncomfortable as he got bigger. Now I'm trying the Ergo (mind you I returned the ring sling to cover some of the cost of the Ergo) and he doesn't seem to like it, but I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly even after watching the instruction video.

My son is 2 months old, 12+ pounds and 22 inches long. I am 5'2, decently endowed (38 D) and about a size 12/14 right now (10/12 pre pregnancy). I heard you can use the Ergo without the baby insert, which is what I have been trying to do. My son cries when I put him in the carrier and his little fit seem to slide in front of the waist band even after I tighten it. I have yet to try the baby insert but plan to once I can get my husbands help to try it. I tried the Ergo today for the second time and the babe just did not like it or did not like my way of putting him in. I made sure his feet were in the "frog" position, but he just didn't like it. So baby insert it is...but I can't imagine he'll go for it as he gets older.

Are there any slings/carriers that I can use for my height and my babes weight that would be useable from now until about 2 to 3 years? I'm interested in making an investment in something that will last a while. I don't want a bunch of slings lying around the house. I liked the idea of the Ergo as it can be used from infant to toddler and is adjustable for me and my husband to use. And the grandparents if they go for it.

Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
